Dr.Steve’s BOTTOM LINE: Inflammation of the heart due to viruses, called viral myocarditis, can be EXTREMELY serious. Translation = you could die! If not death, sometimes it can leave you a cardiac cripple, unable to walk, pick up your kids, or anything associated with a good quality of life. Mild myocarditis can come and go away after your viral disease goes away. But, if it does not or the heart muscle is severely damaged, there is not much modern medicine can offer without getting into transplants or pacemakers and things of that radical nature. Wenxin Keli is a Chinese herb extract that was studied in this small human trial as well as prior laboratory tests exploring the same heart health problem. This is not the highest quality study, but adds some credibility as to potential use of Wenxin Keli in treatment of heart inflammation, irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias due to viral inflammation) and heart failure. So, while these results are by no means conclusive, they pave the ongoing path towards newer and perhaps better ways to support health using natural substances.

OBJECTIVE: To observe Wenxinkeli viral myocarditis clinical efficacy and safety. METHODS: 45 patients were randomly divided into two groups. Treatment group given Wenxinkeli (5 g, 3 times a day with warm water) treatment, the control group given adenosine triphosphate, coenzyme A, vitamin C, coenzyme Q10 and other nutrients cardiac drugs, treatment for 4 weeks. RESULTS: The treatment of clinical symptoms, signs and ECG improvement, restoration of enzyme than the control group, there was a significant difference (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Wenxinkeli ventricular premature treatment of viral myocarditis is effective, and no significant adverse reactions, safety, good.

I’m sorry to hear about your son….best of luck on his treatment and recovery. As I noted in the post, this is an EARLY trial and is really among very very few, including rat studies. So, while promising, there is no good safety data here either. I would make sure the cardiologist who is working with you is fully aware that you may want to try something different. As far as availability, you are actually closer to where it is available geographically, and I would contact direct exporters from China online such as http://www.tcmtreatment.com/.
The one other caution I would give is this. I mentioned on another post that the purity of some herbs is variable, especially when unusual and hard to get. So, caution is in order there as well. I hope this is not too discouraging, but the other protective factors noted in the post I made are also worthy of consideration and easier to come by.
