Everyone has heard that "
fish oil" is good for you. But what is the best source and why is it important? The long answer can take a book to clarify, but the GREAT news is that there is a CLEAR winner! In brief, Omega 3 fatty acids are good for you because they are nature's anti-inflammatory agents. Sort of like Ibuprofen or Motrin but better because there are no side effects at normal doses and the benefits are much broader. Getting more anti-inflammatory Omegas into your diet as well as other healthy fatty acids helps prevent and even reverse symptoms due to inflammatory conditions. So, we are talking about support for painful joints, support for asthmatics, general support for your cardiovascular health, as a cancer preventative or complementary strategy and the list goes on and on. So which source of Omegas is the best and why?

There are alternatives to hysterectomy and you can find more on the topic of natural alternatives to hysterectomy HERE. But if you do need a hysterectomy, the least invasive way to have the surgery is by the vaginal route. In other words, no incisions on your belly. This is not always possible because there are different reasons to have a hysterectomy. The only way to find out is to discuss this with your doctor. What happens then? Do you know anyone who has had a vaginal hysterectomy? Do you have someone who can hold your hand and describe what happened and how to avoid problems and recover the fastest? What if you could have a LOT of friends who could describe their stories? What happened to them may not be what happens to you, but it can give you some confidence and prepare you. So how do you find them? [click to continue…]

Hysterectomy is one of THE most common procedures out there and is most often done for benign non-cancer reasons. In many cases it may be the right thing for your health and can relieve pain, menstrual problems, urinary issues, and more. But you should know that there are almost always alternatives, which may include minor surgical procedures, mainstream medical therapy or natural approaches. What you need depends upon why you are considering or being advised to have a hysterectomy in the fist place. So, it is not a "cure all" situation. This requires an in-depth discussion with your doctor about risks, benefits and alternatives. One area your doctor may NOT be well versed in is natural approaches, which may help. What are these natural alternatives to hysterectomy? [click to continue…]

Happy New Year 2012! With all the festivities and some seasonal over-indulging, including alcohol, what can you do to help your poor old screaming liver? I won't play preacher here since many people celebrate, and I plan on a martini and some wine tonight myself. But getting back to the point, what can you do to really help detox. There are a lot of options out there, but one has quite a bit of science behind it. For thousands of years, there is a substance that has been used quite a bit as a liver antidote. What is it? Thank me later......

There is too much propaganda out there about the benefits and risk of flu vaccination and it is EXTREMELY hard for the lay person to decipher what is true and what is harmful hype. Having said that, there are some pretty accurate and verifiable numbers to look at when deciding to vaccinate or not. The
Cochrane Collaboration, an independent reviewer of the accuracy of medical studies, notes that in order to prevent one case of flu symptoms in an adult somewhere between 33 and 100 individuals need to be vaccinated (similar numbers in children but a few different issues). This is because of the uncertainty of which EXACT strains are circulating out there any given year. The risk of coming down with Guillian-Barré syndrome (a major neurological condition leading to paralysis) is about 1 in a million. This is not about "taking sides" and everyone's risk is different. Learn what your specific risk is and then YOU decide. Your doctor may or may not be "pro-vaccination", but it is really best to discuss this with them about YOUR specific risk. If you decide that you want to protect yourself without the possible benefit of a vaccine, what can you do? Garlic? What?

As obvious as this might seem, many people around the world either don’t get enough
sleep or don’t
sleep in the right environment. Typically, adults need 7 to 8 hours of
sleep each night. Getting a good night’s rest is crucial for boosting your
energy levels and getting you through the next day without
fatigue. Many times you might try to “catch up” on
sleep you lost during the workweek by
sleeping in on the weekend. However, this will hurt more than it helps. While it might be tempting to
sleep 12 hours on those weekend days, you should avoid it because it will mess with your body’s cycle, also known as Circadian Rhythm. So what can help get some decent shut-eye?

Integrative Cancer Care Cureology: What is it?
October 27, 2011Cureology’s mission is to study and report on natural an integrative remedies that work or are the most plausible. Prevention is key, and natural health strategies are front and center as the best approach. Minor problems like occasional headaches, cosmetic problems like acne and similar things are also amenable to natural integrative remedies.
